New Dawn (No.1)

I'm not fit... my wife my kids and most of the Enterprise fleet will agree and I need to get better, I need to be stronger, healthier and have more energy for life, for sailing for everything...

Digressing for a moment... Had a good weekend, watched the new animated film Cars, did some jobs round the house and Sunday Rowan and Claire went cycling round Draycote and me and Flynn went for a sail.

The breeze had completely disaapeared early afternoon, but when we arrived a gently F1-2 was there and it was just enuff to take youngest son for a yacht.. my dads boat was already rigged so we got changed and went for it, we had just enuff time to make the start of the race...cool... Flynn was in a good mood, he did some srteering and played the main... hopefully not tooo much to break the rules! We had a fairly good start the breeze was coming fromthe North, but Iwas very patchy, think we went too close to the shore, the nmajority of the Solo fleet went out towards the middle, we tacked back to cut our losses and we were doing pants... Flynn got brave and sat on the foredeck, clutching the mast, and "fishing" with the painter.... he liked being there and even coped with dads wild roll-tacks as the patchy breeze frustrated him! The other guy who went into the shore with us, went a lot further and came in on a decent breeze and cut into 2nd place gggrrr. How the hell do you explain going from about 2nd to last up the first beat to a 3 year old when you can't explain it to yourself convincingly!

Anyway we had a good sail, Flynn spent the whole race from the foredeck, we rocked and rolled the boat he dug his hand into the water, splashed dad..well I was sailing crap so I deserved it and had a cool time, we even managed to start catching the others up pretty well - once I stopped concentrating and getting frustrated!

Anyway a good late afternoon was had by all... we put the bikes back onto the back of the car and went home... it was there that I decided to leave mine on the car and be radical!

6:30am this morning (Monday) I woke up, everyone still asleep for once, shaved, cleaned teeth, put on my shorts, Howies cycling top and deck-shoes, got in the car and drove to Draycote Water... got the bike off the car, saddled up and went cycling...

I don't do exercise, hence a new dawn to try and get into an exercise groove.... its very slightly over 5 miles around Draycote.... I needed to get some exercise, get home, shower, breakfast and get to work (45 mins commute)...

There was a good breeze blowing but the air was just warm, almost noone around so I head off, clockwise around the reservouir passing 2 people countless bird and rabbits and engulphed in peac, nature and me panting! i'm sooo not fit at the moment, managed to keep my average speed just over 11mph, got tired, aching, breathed in clean air, felt wind in my face and woke up the good way..with nature.

It took just under 1/2 hour to do the 5 miles, two straights at the start and the finish down the dam walls and the "natural bank" gives you some little hilly-sections which keeps things interesting; I wanted to shower at the club but at 7:45 / 8am its all locked... Damn have to go and shower at home... the fresh air was so invigorating, my legs ached, my lungs were full and fresh I want to end up being able to cycle twice round in the 7am-8am window i've given myself and do it twice a week, maybe in the future I'll even think about jogging around....?

When I finished I sat on the grass and watched the wind gusting on the water, cooling my legs as I had a drink and readied myself to face the traffic the commute and the office... i was awake now and I was smiling...

This is what motivated me this morning...

See you on Wednesday morning gorgeous for a cycle... and then in the evening for a sail...
