Draycote - THE Club (with water)

So... the other week (sorry about the delay) was the Enterprise Open @Draycote - usually a HUGE affair over 2 days and the end of season...but, alas this year it was a rather more sedate affair... one day, but damn the sailing was good!

So the forecast was an avrerage just about medium breeze... a decent fleet with some good "names"... Johhny Woodweard, Shane McCarthy, Mr.Rowlet, the Frys etc were all present, albeit the crews were a little mixed up, on the water as well as in-the-head... so sausage bap and a strong cup of coffee and then off yachting.. the OD were DWSC's finest so should be a good sail...

So.. light-to moderate breeze, blue sails "swishing".. we got ready to launch... the Rugby Wind-Gods saw the blue sails and as is written in stone in the traditional font, the wind eeked itself up a few knots.. then a few more... no we're talking, not silly breeze just a good planing (mostly) breeze... Kool...

So.. a run down of the results, based on my fading memory, urgency to get this post out and completely blurred by the fact that me and James had our best sail in bloody ages.. both by the fact that we sailed pretty well and the event was just a Buzzzzzz..... so sorry for the crap report!

Race 1
We got a good start.... sailed well got in the lead, lost the lead.. sailed less well (that first reach I could NOT get the hang of!), sailed well again & finished in a decent position...

Race 2
We got a good start.... sailed well got in the lead, lost the lead.. sailed less well (that first reach I could NOT get the hang of!), sailed well again & finished in a decent position...

Race 3
Subtly different.... We got a good start... by going for a suicidal port tack flyer across the fleet...wow its a buzz going yeeeeha passing Fry-1&Rowley, Shane&Fry-2 and Johnny-just on port at Draycote... Wheee.. I love sailing!

So that was about it... the sailing was a buzz... very close racing, either side of the beat tended to pay, middle never felt good, not shifty, breeze up and down in strength but not stupid, some VERY nice planes, some good close tactical sailing... some fun..port tacking, Shane & Fry-1 luffing matches etc etc...

So... Results...

1st Shane & Fry-2 (Irish Sailing club)
2nd Fry-1 & Pete Rowley (Hallibut Sailing club?)
3rd Ant & James (Soulsailor Racing Association)
4th Johnny & Ben (South Brummy Yacht club)
