Tolkien and Ents

Just had a bizzare thought....

Lord of the Rings, a fantastic mammoth read that I just managed to get through last year while I was recovering from my hernia operation before my sailign season started....

In the books there is mention of the Ent a large "alive" tree that could move and talk.... now these great big blocks of wood were older than you and I by eons and were very, very wise....

The only conclusion you can get from this is that Tolkien, who if i remember correctly based his books on a forest in the Midlands, did infact sail Enterprises, which are (or were) old, wooden and "wisest" out of all the current sailing dinghies... I think Tolkien may even have won the double-chine series during its early years, i'll have to have a look at the trophy to see if his name is inscribed anywhere!!!

If anyone has any further concrete facts about Tolkien being an Enterprise sailor and basing the "Ent" characters on the original Enterprise dinghy, then let me know...
